NSW Health Introduce New Legislation Around Cosmetic Procedures (Beaute Industrie)

In the interest of patient safety, NSW Health has introduced legislative changes that govern the administration, supply, transport, storage and record-keeping of prescription-only medications used for the purpose of cosmetic procedures.

The changes, that take effect from 1 September 2021, ensure stricter regulation of the administration of medicines commonly used in cosmetic procedures such as anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers (cosmetic medicines). “The amendments not only protect against the misuse of prescription-only medications administered in cosmetic health services, but also provides protection preserving the use of these same medications that are also used in therapeutic applications such as cerebral palsy and spasticity,” said Dr Molton, President of the CPCA.
