Over many years the population of Australia has progressively evolved from a predominance of colonial influences, to rightfully becoming more inclusive of our nation’s first peoples and the migration of peoples to Australia from all corners of the world. The CPCA acknowledges that multiculturalism provides unique opportunities to discover aspects of cultural diversity. Simultaneously the College acknowledges the importance of reflection of individual medical practitioners’ personal cultures and belief systems that may be in contrast to our fellow citizens and residents of Australia and where they have the potential for adverse impact upon the doctor patient relationship. Cultural diversity is not limited to geographical or political persuasion, but extends to issues of gender, gender bias and the spectrum of human sexuality.
