practitioner

The Cosmetic Physicians College of Australasia is a registered Not-for-profit organisation which was formed in 2014 by a group of doctors with a special interest in cosmetic medicine. The College evolved from the Cosmetic Physicians Society of Australasia which was formed in 1997. The CPSA was the first organisation to represent the interests of those doctors working in the new field of cosmetic medicine – as versus cosmetic surgery. The purpose of the College is to provide representation and education in the area of cosmetic medicine for the Affiliates, Members and Fellows of the Cosmetic Physicians College of Australasia.

The principal objects of the College are to establish and maintain high standards of learning, skills and conduct from doctors working in cosmetic medicine. We also support public education and awareness of cosmetic medicine. The College will implement cosmetic medical educational programs and support research into cosmetic medical treatments that will in turn aid and support medical practitioners wishing to further their knowledge of cosmetic medicine. College objectives will be furthered by our co-operation with other health professionals, like minded associations, institutes, governments, corporations, and medical practitioners from other medical disciplines that also hold an interest in cosmetic medicine. With the support of its members, the College aims to position and promote itself as the leading representative body for medical practitioners practicing cosmetic medicine in Australasia.

Technically, what is a
“Cosmetic Physician”?

A Cosmetic Physician is the name given to a medical practitioner who has chosen to train in, qualify and practise non-invasive medical treatments that provide patients with an improved aesthetic physical appearance and/or condition. Treatments also go further than just aesthetics, such as treatments for scarring, acne, rosacea, pigmentation, vascular defects and many other medical conditions which affect appearance. Procedures can include the use of dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle muscle relaxant drugs and equipment such as laser and IPL machines.

Another term used to describe a cosmetic physician is an aesthetic medical practitioner.

Where does the Cosmetic Physicians
College of Australasia fit in?

For The Patient

The Cosmetic Physicians College of Australasia (CPCA) believes it is in a patient’s best interest to select only qualified and experienced doctors when considering a cosmetic procedure. CPCA members focus on providing cosmetic medicine so patients can rest assured they are being treated by an appropriately trained expert.

It has been shown many times that improving one’s appearance can improve self-esteem considerably. CPCA members know from experience what can be achieved through minimally or non-invasive procedures.

We aim to provide the public with up-to-date information about cosmetic medicine and help them locate qualified doctors who specialise in cosmetic procedures.

Relevant training and experience are prerequisites for admission to the CPCA. The procedures available to practitioners are burgeoning and new medical and scientific research appears with ever-increasing regularity. We provide our members with the most up-to-date, relevant information, and it is a condition of membership of the CPCA that our doctors keep abreast of the latest medical and scientific advances.

We also liaise with health and ethics authorities to help ensure that regulations and guidelines keep pace with new technology and procedures. We also oversee a code of conduct and a self-regulatory framework to which all CPCA members must adhere.
